Toros Agri launched a project on correct and balanced fertilization supported also by Ministry of Agriculture

Apr. 18, 2012

The increase in agricultal production relies on correct and balanced use of fertilizers. In Turkey, however, the fertilizer consumption has not been increasing in remarkable levels for the last 10-15 years. Toros Agri, as the leading fertilizer producer in Turkey, has been taking various actions to inform farmers through meetings, trainings, documentaries, various publications, and its web site about the need of nutrition of the cultivated plants for a higher productivity. Toros Agri has now introduced a new project to support the effort to increase the use of fertilizers.

The “Correct and Balanced Use of Fertilizers” project initiated by Toros Agri with the support of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture, and Livestock aims to raise awareness among farmers for better agricultural practices. To meet this objective, it has been planned to run the “Correct and Balanced Use of Fertilizer” project for a period of 2 years in 20 different towns for wheat, 4 towns for cotton, 4 towns for corn, and 2 towns for sunflower plants. The fertilizers used at testing fields will be met free of charge by Toros Agri.

Toros Agri’s 30 agricultural engineers and 40 engineers from Ministry of Agriculture, who will work in this country-wide project were trained for 3 days on the implementation of the project at the initial stage. The project targets to perceptibly demonstrate the difference in yield between a field fertilized by a farmer on his own knowledge and an adjacent field fertilized with the most appropriate composition and thus, direct farmers to the correct and balanced use of fertilizers. The information that will be obtained at the end of harvest shall also be assessed annually and the results will be shared with the producers.
