Tekfen Holding

The foundations of Tekfen Holding representing a group identified with reliability, honesty and quality were laid when three young entrepreneurs Feyyaz Berker, Nihat Gökyiğit and Necati Akçağlılar came together to realize their ideals in 1956. Tekfen Holding has a distinguished place in Turkish business life with its approach targeting excellence in every field of its activities and the ethical values that it defends as well as the brands and marketing power that it owns. The Group currently conducts its operations in three principal business lines such as Contracting, Agri-Industry and Real Estate Development through 40 companies and 12 subsidiaries, each of which is well-known in their own sectors.

Tekfen Agri-Industry Group

Engaging in a wide range of services and activities that focus on agricultural activities, Tekfen Agri-Industry Group constitutes on of the principal business lines of Tekfen Holding. The Group conducts its operations under three main headings that can be listed as follows:

  • Agricultural activities comprising seed production, techno-agriculture, and fruit and seedling production, including, in particular, fertilizer production and marketing;
  • Port management services provided at the two group-owned terminals located in Ceyhan and Samsun; and
  • Free zone and fuel station management.

Tekfen Agri-Industry Group is Turkey’s biggest privately-owned concern in its field in terms of business volume, product/service range and market share.

Toros Tarım Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş.

Toros Tarım Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş., the flagship company of Tekfen Agri-Industry Group, was founded in 1974 in order to operate mainly in the agricultural inputs sector and it commenced its fertilizer production activities in 1981. The Company ranks 63rd in the list of Top 500 Largest Industrial Enterprises of Turkey for 2017 as announced by Istanbul Chamber of Industry.

Having adopted the primary goal of supplying Turkish farmers with productivity and quality-enhancing agricultural inputs since the very first day of its foundation, Toros Tarım has essentially based its industrial activities on the production of plant nutrients, i.e. fertilizers, one of the most effective inputs for improving productivity. Accounting for 38% of the total installed production capacity of Turkey in the fertilizer industry, Toros Tarım is the largest fertilizer producer of Turkey in terms of total installed production capacity and market share.

Conducting its manufacturing operations at three plants located in Ceyhan, Mersin and Samsun, the Company has introduced its first organomineral fertilizers to the market in 2017 in addition to its Ammonium Nitrate (AN)/Calcium Ammonium Nitrate (CAN), Diammonium Phosphate (DAP) and compound (NPK) fertilizers that it produces in its own plants. Seeking to be an exclusive source for all the plant nutrients that farmers might need, Toros Tarım imports the products that it does not produce itself from abroad; and its product line also includes water-soluble specialty fertilizers and trace elements in addition to conventional fertilizers.

Toros Tarım also supports its leadership in the production segment with its strong logistics infrastructure and distribution network and supplies its products to farmers all around the country through a network of nearly 1.250 dealers and authorized sellers across Turkey. Having a pioneering position in its sector with the product varieties that it produces and the innovations and services that it offers to farmers, the company is also the owner of the first R&D center in the field of plant nutrition approved by the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology.

The provision of port terminal services occupies an important place among Toros’ non-agricultural business lines. Originally built in 1981 under the structure of Ceyhan Production Plant and subsequently expanded to serve third parties as well, Torosport Ceyhan Terminal is now the second biggest commercial bulk-cargo terminal in the Gulf of Iskenderun. Torosport Samsun Terminal that is operated under the structure of Samsun Production Plant also contributes to the Group’s operations in this business line by virtue of both the additional capacity that it provides and its geographical location. As a part of its port terminal management operations, Toros Tarım also provides piloting, tugboat, shipping agency and similar services as well.

Another non-agricultural business line of Toros Tarım is free-zone management that has been conducted through Adana Yumurtalık Free Zone (TAYSEB) since 1998. Occupying a 5-km shoreline and encompassing an area of 4,5 million square meters in Ceyhan, TAYSEB is one of the biggest free zones in the world and also the first and only one in Turkey that was established to cater for heavy-industry investments. Owing to its convenient location and facilities in Ceyhan that is expected to become a major energy hub, TAYSEB promises a bright future as a venue for investments in high added-value and production-based industries including chemicals and petrochemicals in particular.

The polypropylene and polyethylene sack manufacturing plant operating in Adana under the structure of Toros Tarım single-handedly meets all of the packaging needs related with the fertilizers produced at Toros Tarım’s own plants. Toros Tarım’s fuel retail and wholesale activities are conducted through five units of fuel stations located in Adana region.

Tekfen Tarımsal Araştırma Üretim ve Pazarlama A.Ş.

Tekfen Tarımsal Araştırma Üretim ve Pazarlama A.Ş. (Tekfen Agricultural Research Production and Marketing Inc.), another member of the Tekfen Agri-Industry Group, was founded in 2017 in order to further improve the group’s activities in the fields of production of seeds and seedlings and techno-agriculture and to transfer its current know-how directly to agricultural production. Thus, the Group aims to deploy its corporate vision, scientific approach and financial strength in order to further improve the efficiency of agricultural production that will become increasingly more vital in future. The Company has put its signature under an important venture in the field of fruit production by acquiring Alanar Meyve, one of the biggest and high-quality fruit producers of Turkey, and its sister company Alara Fidan in 2018.
