Mersin Production Plant

The plant, which was started to be built in 1968 by Akdeniz Gübre Sanayi A. Ş., a Turkish-Kuwait partnership, started production in 1972 and was largely refurbished as a result of the rehabilitation project implemented in the years of 1984-87. After acquisition of Akdeniz Gübre by Tekfen Holding in 1990 and then its merger with Toros Agri Group in 2005, the name of the plant was changed as Toros Agri Mersin Production Plant.

Mersin Plant is a fertilizer complex comprising 5 main production units producing nitric acid, sulphuric acid, and phosphoric acid as well as Calcium Ammonium Nitrate (CAN) and Diammonium Phosphate (DAP) fertilizers, and the auxiliary facilities such as material stock rooms, outdoor-indoor storage areas and bagging unit. The plant covers an area of approximately 1 million square meters and its CAN unit has a production capacity of 660.000 tons/year of fertilizers containing 26% nitrogen. Ammonium Nitrate (AN) fertilizers of varying ratios and Ammonium Nitrate fertilizer containing 33% nitrogen can also be produced at the plant according to the requirements. The plant has a share of 38% in the total production capacity of the country in this category.

The DAP unit of the plant has a production capacity of 150.000 tons/year of fertilizers. With this capacity, the plant has a share of 28% in the total DAP production of Turkey. The acid units of the plants have the production capacities of 405.280 tons/year of nitric acid (100% HNO3) ; 214.500 tons/year of sulphuric acid (98% H2SO4) ; and 71.000 tons/year of phosphoric acid (P2O5).

Mersin Production Plant is one of the rare industrial organizations that can generate its own energy in Turkey. There is a steam turbine generator with 7,4 MW electricity generation capacity and a gas turbine generator with 4,7 MW electricity generation capacity at the power generation station operated by Toros Energy under the structure of the plant.

Mersin Production Plant, where environmental issues are addressed with sensitivity and from all technological, economic and legal aspects, has all the necessary emission and discharge permissions received in accordance with the environmental legislation. Environment-related investments are considered with priority at the plant and continued within the framework of a schedule. For example; the catalytic reduction system reducing NOX emission in the exhaust gases released to atmosphere from the nitric acid unit below 200 ppm was commissioned in the plant for the first time in Turkey. Toros Agri was granted an award by Mersin Chamber of Commerce and Industry due to this investment.
