Toros Agriwill establish an R&D Center in Mersin

The application made by Toros Agri (Toros Tarım), the largest corporation in the agricultural industry sector, for establishing an R&D Center in the field of plants and nutrition has been accepted by the Republic of Turkey, Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology. Scientific studies aimed at meeting the demands and requirements of the sector will be conducted in such R&D Center that will be the first established in Turkey in this field. Priority will be given for development of new products that will contribute in the plant nutrition efficiency through the use of new technologies in this center.

Seeing the development of agriculture as a multifaceted process and adopting as its corporate policy the principle of playing an effective role in this process from the very day of its foundation, Toros Agri will establish an R&D Center in its Mersin Production Plant in order to support its product portfolio with new products in the field of fertilizers, one of the most important elements of sustainable agriculture, and to introduce Turkish agriculture with technological innovations. Studies for product development, improvement of existing products and process development will be conducted in the R&D Center, the application for which was approved by the Republic of Turkey, Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology.

Development of agriculture, the starting point of the food chain, constitutes one of the main goals of Toros Agri. Toros Agri has been providing highly-efficient agricultural inputs for farmers by producing both plant nutrients, and high-quality seeds and seedlingsresistant to diseases for over 35 years. Thus, Toros Agri is directly contributing in the achievement of goals such as increased crop production per unit area, increasing the quality of living for farmers and ensuring food and nutrient safety by providing adequate and high-quality nutrients needed by the rapidly increasing population of the world, all constituting the basis of the concept of sustainability in agriculture. Having been the leader of the sector in terms of production capacity and market share, Toros Agri is targeting to meet farmers’ needs for any kind of plant nutrition with its water-soluble specialty fertilizers as well classic fertilizers. Toros Agri is also conducting its efforts to add “organomineral” fertilizers to its product range.

With the formulation and development activities to be conducted at the R&D Center that will be newly established, it is aimed to develop Toros Agri’s current product portfolio with new products having different properties, which will contribute in the efficiency of farmers. In addition, studies for development of specialty fertilizer types and local production of products that are not currently produced in our country as well as the studies for increasing the physical and chemical efficiency, resistance and waiting times of current products will be conducted at the R&D center. The goals of the new R&D center include, inter alia, the issues such as development of production processes, energy saving in production and mitigation of environmental impacts.

The first in Turkey

Having so far pioneered its sector with many innovations in the fields of fertilizers and agricultural inputs, Toros Agri is breaking a new ground with its R&D Center. This facility that will be established under the structure of Mersin Production Plant will be the first R&D Center operating in the field of food nutrition in Turkey.

Having so far conducted joint studies with Ege University and Çukurova University in the fields like proper-balanced fertilization and sensitive nutrient management in plant production, Toros Agri is targeting to further improve and continue such studies in the upcoming period. Toros Agri will further improve its cooperation particularly with the universities as well as the research institutes affiliated with the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock, which is oriented towards both production of inputs like fertilizers, seeds, seedlings, agricultural pesticides and agricultural mechanization technologies and use of such inputs in the most appropriate manner. Toros Agri will also continue to support the symposia, congresses and conferences that it has participated so far in relation to R&D activities.
