The Agricultural Industry Group that operates under the title of Toros Tarım forms one of the four main branches of Tekfen Holding and represents the second biggest operation of Tekfen. Having realized a turnover of TL 1.027 million in 2010, the Agricultural Industrial Group has a share of 45% in the annual total turnover of Tekfen Holding. Ranking among the 50 biggest industrial organizations of Turkey, Toros Tarım has a reputable place in the sector with its farmer friendly applications, sense of quality, business standards, pioneering executions along with the displayed commercial success.

 

The foundations of Tekfen Agricultural Industrial Group that has a paramount position in Turkish agriculture and that sustains its operations sophisticatedly in different fields of agriculture was set in 1974 by establishing Toros Gübre (Toros Fertilizers). After Ceyhan, the first production plant, had been put into service in 1981, new production plants were added and other agricultural fields accompanied the fertilizer production in time and thus the activities of the group were enriched.

 

Having many high quality service and activities that are complementing each other in its organizational body is the characteristic that differentiates Toros Tarım from its commercial rivals. The Group goes one step further with their principal concept of supporting the farmer and its structure that meets more than one need of the producer invigorates its leading position in the market each and every day. Today, Toros Tarım is the market leader in its field with its business volume, product/service range and the market share.

 

Today, Toros Tarım is carrying on its activities in a rather wider range. Among the activities directly related with agriculture, the chemical fertilizer is the primary activity. Toros Tarım realizes the production activities in the Ceyhan, Mersin and Samsun plants that hold 38% of the established production capacity in Turkey with 1.930 million tones. Toros Tarım that offers a wide range of product portfolio to the farmers through import, apart from its own production capacity, sustains its distribution activities, which is the other important element of its success, with its nationwide 7 regional offices, product warehouses with 550.000 tons capacity and approximately 800 dealers spread around all over the country. Having a logistically strong infrastructure plays an important role in Toros Tarım’s sustaining its active position in the market.

 

Seeing the development of agriculture as a sophisticated process and adopting playing an active role in this process as a company principle, Toros Tarım believes that it is necessary to improve the welfare level of the farmers and the yield and quality should also be developed in order for the agricultural activities to reach their long earned position. In parallel with this purpose, using high quality and high yield seeds that are resistant to illnesses as agricultural inputs apart from the fertilizer has specifically great importance. Toros Tarım is producing special seeds by using tissue culture method in its own Agripark plants and performing comprehensive research & development activities for the purpose of offering high quality seeds to Turkish farmers. Similarly, Toros Tarım is also carrying out the cultivation of high quality and grafted seedlings in the greenhouses furnished with state of the art technology as Hishtil–Toros Seedling. The emphasis placed on the technologies oriented to increasing the yield and the investments made parallel to this aim made Toros Tarım a leading brand that “sets the standards” in the fields of seed and seedling in recent years.

 

Other activities that are not directly related with agriculture such as terminal management, bag production, gas station operations and free zone management form the supplementary work fields of the group. Toros Terminal that was built as an extension of Ceyhan fertilizer plant in 1981 and that was extended to provide service to third parties in 1990 due to its excess capacity has become one of the most important ports of the Eastern Mediterranean on an international scale. The terminal owned by Samsun fertilizer factory was bought by Toros Tarım and it contributed a lot to the activities of the Group in this field both with its additional capacity and its geographical location. Toros Tarım offers pilotage, tugboat and ship agency services within the framework of terminal activities.

 

Free zone management forms one of the important prudential initiatives of the Group. Toros Adana Yumurtalık Free Zone has a promising future due to the opportunities it offers and its convenient location in Ceyhan that is expected to become the energy zone of Turkey.
